Lazarus, a well-known state-sponsored hacking group, is reportedly exploiting professionals through LinkedIn by creating fake LinkedIn Filipino profiles.
According to a post from Cyber Security Philippines – CERTÂ Â on their official Facebook Page, this case specifically targets Filipinos.
These fake LinkedIn profiles are used to approach individuals, especially those actively working or seeking new job opportunities.
How does it work? Well, Lazarus lures these individuals into becoming “mules” or in other words, unknowing accomplices.
Once recruited, these mules might inadvertently help Lazarus gain access to sensitive information or infrastructure within their employers’ systems.
This could include leaking confidential data or unknowingly assisting in cyberattacks.
Also, many Filipinos have voiced concerns and shared their experiences regarding the increasing number of video resume and video introduction requirements since the fourth quarter of 2024.
Applicants report submitting their video introductions but receiving no follow-up responses regarding their applications.
Additionally, many individuals have pointed out that while companies frequently post new job openings, they often respond with feedback stating that applicants are “not included in the shortlist.”
Have you ever received a connection request on LinkedIn that seemed suspicious?
