DepEd in the Philippines has confirmed that DepEd laptops sold in Cebu is really happening! If you remember, DepEd distributed these laptops to students for distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The intention of providing laptops was to help ensure that all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, could continue their education during the pandemic.

This is not the first time this is reported because last year DepEd Laptops are Being Sold at Surplus Store

However, the reports of sold laptops suggest there may have been issues with the distribution process. This development has sparked concern about access to technology and education in the country and the need for greater oversight of government programs. The DepEd has previously faced criticism for its handling of the distribution of educational materials, including the quality and availability of learning modules for students. The sale of government-issued laptops on the black market adds to these concerns, especially given the importance of digital literacy and technology skills for students today.

In response to the reports, DepEd has urged the public to report any instances of government-issued laptops being sold illegally. The agency has also reiterated its commitment to providing quality education to all students, regardless of their circumstances.

As the investigation continues, it is still unclear what measures the DepEd will take to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Some have called for a more rigorous screening process for beneficiaries of government programs. In contrast, some have suggested that local government units or other agencies with more experience handling such programs should handle the distribution of laptops and other resources.
