Square Enix suspended sales of Final Fantasy 14 and stopped offering free trials late last year, citing an overabundance of new players. But according to Eurogamer, FF14 producer and director Naoki Yoshida has announced that free trials will resume today, February 22nd.
The company stated that it had to halt sales because the server’s capacity had been exceeded due to the overwhelming popularity of the most recent expansion, Endwalker. The servers were unable to handle the influx of old and new players eager to try out new content. Queues grew so long that Square Enix was forced to temporarily stop selling the game and remove the free trial to ensure that existing players could get in.
Final Fantasy XIV resumed sales afterward but the free trial remained unavailable. However, the good news is, free trials resume today.
The company also revealed that more deep dungeons will be added to Final Fantasy XIV with the 6.0 patch updates, which are set to arrive in the coming months. NFTs are also not planned for FF14, according to Yoshida, who confirmed this during a recent livestream broadcast.
