Last week, users noticed something different about ChatGPT – it seemed to be acting a bit “lazy.” People reported instances where the AI would suggest users do their own work or outright refuse tasks. This raised some eyebrows and prompted OpenAI to look into the matter.
On December 8, 2023, OpenAI chimed in on the ChatGPT X account (formerly Twitter). They clarified that they haven’t tweaked the ChatGPT model since November 11, so its recent behavior might be a bit unpredictable. They assured users that this nonchalant attitude wasn’t on purpose.
Amazing how lazy ChatGPT has gotten… It simply gives up on generating repeating patterns and tells you to do it yourself. I guess one could argue they are getting more human-like… But still 😋 pic.twitter.com/pRfuImUicJ

Social media lit up with users sharing their thoughts on ChatGPT’s newfound lethargy. Some were genuinely bummed, while others couldn’t resist cracking a few jokes about it.
ChatGPT is too lazy to read my entire novel as an attached PDF
We've created an AI with the attention span and work ethic of a Millennial
I'm not so worried about it enslaving humanity, yet.
