Xiaomi’s budget Redmi Note 3 is considered to be one of the most unexpected performers of 2015, nevertheless, the recently introduced upgraded version, the Redmi Note 3 Pro stood better amongst various handsets launched in 2016. We’ve already had a decent amount of time with the device and gave our overall comprehensive review on it, which shows a few interesting things upgraded on the Redmi Note 3 Pro. Another unexpected performer is Lenovo’s new Vibe K4 Note mid-ranger. The handset recently found its way into PH shore, together with the Vibe X3 and since our time with the handset, it delivered a fairly reasonable and satisfactorily performance overall. It has a decent 3GB of RAM and a standard 13MP/5MP camera pairing in the shooting department. There was a lot more features added to the device, which makes it one of the most highly improved successor of 2016. The Lenovo Vibe K4 Note is officially priced at Php 10,900 and can be purchased from any Lenovo stores or online stores nationwide.

It seems that this list is slowly becoming a list of “unsung smartphones of 2016”, but there is a good reason why the Samsung Galaxy J5 2016 variant landed on the list. From first glance, the Galaxy J5 2016 variant seems to be a “copy and paste” handset from its previous handsets, which could actually be the case. Nevertheless, as a performer, we can’t hide the fact that the Galaxy J5 2016 variant is no pushover device.
It boasts 2GB of RAM, with microSD card additional storage. The Galaxy J5 2016 variant is also set for a Marshmallow update, which makes the Galaxy J5 2016 variant a big bang-for-your-buck. The Galaxy J5 2016 variant is priced at around Php 10-11K.

This one’s a bit of an oddball. OnePlus‘ mid-ranger, the OnePlus X is quite underrated and has been shunned by various well-known and well-marketed products, but that doesn’t mean the OnePlus X had bad marketing, in fact, it had a good one, thanks to various teasers and whatnot set by OnePlus.
Nevertheless, despite being underrated, the OnePlus X still found its home in the west and was highly accepted and it’s not that hard to figure out as to why. The OnePlus packed a decent SD801 chip and 3GB of RAM, the huge downside on the device is its 2525mAh battery, which we felt could’ve been better. The OnePlus X is available here in PH through online stores, with a price tag of around Php 12K.

The Asus Zenfone Max is one of our personal favorites. One thing that got us blowing in is its massive 5000mAh battery capacity, which could last for a pretty long time when moderately used. The 5.5-incher is also no stranger to hardware performance, thanks to its Snapdragon 410 and 2GB of RAM running in unison. The Zenfone Max is a huge phone in more ways than one and is indeed one of the most highly-acclaimed yet affordable phones in 2016. The Zenfone Max is priced at around Php 7K to 8.5k.

Alright, alright, we know that technically, the Sony C5 Ultra isn’t a 2016 smartphone, but recently it received a pretty interesting price slash amongst online sellers. We couldn’t simply ignore Sony’s 2015 top-notch 6-incher, its 13MP dual camera pairing and its MediaTek 6752 chip. All-in-all, the Xperia C5 Ultra is an Ultra performer, whatever year it is and obviously, we’re looking forward to its successor, the Sony Xperia C6. Right now, the Xperia C5 Ultra is priced at around Php 13.5K to 18K.
