Apple Inc. has announced a leadership change through its Newsroom.
Tim Cook is set to become executive chairman, and John Ternus has been appointed the company’s next chief executive officer.
The transition will take effect on September 1, 2026. Cook will remain CEO until the summer to support the handover process.
Ternus currently serves as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering and has been with Apple since 2001. He joined the executive team in 2021 and has led hardware development across major products, including iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch.

Meanwhile, Tim Cook has been Apple’s CEO since 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs.
During his tenure, the company expanded its product lineup and services business, while significantly growing its global operations and revenue.
As executive chairman, Tim Cook is expected to remain involved in company matters, including engagement with policymakers.
In a related change, Arthur Levinson, who has served as non-executive chairman, will become lead independent director.
Ternus will also join Apple’s board of directors on the same date. As mentioned, the changes will take effect on September 1, 2026.
