Google Japan’s Newest 5-Foot-Long Keyboard

The only problem with computer keyboards over the past few years is that you can’t use them to kill spiders on the ceiling or fight in the office. Thanks to Google Japan, that’s no longer a problem.

Google Japan has made a keyboard that is 5.4 feet long and has all the keys in one row. Its creators say that since you can only move it left or right and not up or down, you don’t have to look everywhere for the key you need. The scene likely inspired them in Big where the piano keyboard dances. You might still need a yardstick to get there, though.

The new QWERTY bar on the Gboard puts the keys in a line that is as wide as a single key and as long as an average child.

The keyboard is very long, 5.25 feet (1,600 mm) as it is made. The original prototype was 7.87 feet (2,400 mm) long, according to the company, if you think that’s long. The keyboard has 17 boards, 16 of which hold the keys and one that controls everything.

Google Japan jokes that this design makes it easier to store, find the right keys when typing, and have a messy desk. In the video from Google Japan, the keyboard is set up in alphabetical order, and the user starts touch typing by remembering how far each key is from the left edge. If you know that P is the 17th key from the left, it’s “easy” to find (the first key from the left is a search button, not A). Indeed, this is easier than looking for the up, down, left, and right keys on a regular keyboard.

5151The video says that this kind of keyboard is excellent for messy desks, easy to clean with one long brush swipe, and cats won’t be able to step on it because it has a narrow frame. Since it’s so long, you and a friend can type simultaneously, just like those bikes with two seats that no one uses.

The company is putting out more of a joke than an actual product. Take a look at the video below here!
