Are you using WhatsApp to communicate with family, friends, or work contacts?
A group of international WhatsApp users has filed a lawsuit in a US court, alleging that Meta, which is WhatsApp’s parent company, can access private messages despite the app’s end-to-end encryption.
However, Meta communications director Andy Stone strongly denied the allegations, calling it a “frivolous work of fiction.”
Meta maintains that WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption prevents anyone, including the company itself, from reading messages.
According to the company, encryption keys are stored only on users’ devices and not on Meta’s servers.
Based on a Bloomberg report, the lawsuit was filed on January 23 and includes plaintiffs from Australia, South Africa, and Mexico.

While the lawsuit does not involve Philippine users, the case may still draw attention to WhatsApp’s privacy claims.
