If you still own an oldie but goodie TV from the past, the easiest way to transform it into a smart TV is by adding a streaming box. With it, you can access streaming apps such as Netflix and YouTube and even stream at higher resolutions. Xiaomi, well-known for its aggressively priced phones, just released the successor to the popular Mi Box 4 three years later. Dubbed as Mi Box 4S, the new streaming box from the company is now available in China for CNY 289 (~Php2,100).

Despite being three years late, if you’re expecting a huge upgrade over the predecessor, you may be disappointed. According to the listed features, the Mi Box 4S sports nearly the same spec sheet as the Mi Box 4. It’s still using a 64-bit quad-core Amlogic S905X chipset with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage. Resolution support still goes up to 4K @ 60fps, with HDR, Dolby Audio, and DTS Sound formats. Even the remote control is the same, featuring a mic for voice assistance.

Port-wise, Mi Box 4S features an HDMI 2.0, a USB 2.0, a headphone jack, and a power input. While the OS still gets you the Android 6 Marshmallow with PatchWall UI, once shipped, the device will run on Android TV Pie out of the box.

The biggest upgrade, by far, is the better Wi-Fi modem inside the Mi Box 4S. It now supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz band for better and faster wireless connection.

There’s no word yet regarding the global release of the Mi Box 4s.
