Eye Strain and "Middling" AMOLED

In case you’re living under a rock, Xiaomi released the Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro in the Philippines with unbeatable prices for the features you get. You’re practically getting flagship-level performance from the Snapdragon 865 and flagship-level feature in the 144Hz refresh rate display. However, some may be scratching their heads after hearing that the Mi 10T Series is using IPS LCD, especially when Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro sported AMOLED.

According to Xiaomi’s Product Marketing Manager Daniel Hoang Desjarlais, in an interview with TechRadar, he said that “it is better to have a high-quality LCD, the best of the best LCD, versus a middling sort of AMOLED.” He then added, “there are issues with AMOLED and certain peoples’ eyes – I think it’s like 10% of the population, when looking at an AMOLED display, experience very heavy eye strain.”

While we do agree with the best LCD on the market, given that 144Hz is the fastest LCD for mobile phones right now, we’re not sure about the second reason. Any phone with a dim display or a user looking at a small screen for an extended period will encounter eye strain. But, saying that AMOLED causes more eye strain than IPS LCD is stretching things a little bit.

What are your thoughts about it? Are you getting the Mi 10T Series for its fast screen, or are you skipping it due to IPS LCD?
