It’s no secret that the Xiaomi 12 Lite, the least expensive model in the 12 series, has a higher price tag, forcing it to compete with more reputable mid-range phones in the under Php 30k pricing category. However, with the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s formal launch in the Philippines, this is no longer a mystery. The Samsung Galaxy A53 and OPPO Reno7 are two competitors that the Xiaomi 12 Lite is anticipated to face in this price range.

Similar in size to the Xiaomi 12 Lite, both phones offer different features despite having a similar overall size. How do they measure up to one another? Let’s look at our piece of comparison:

Design

Due to its glass back and flat sides, which give it a sleeker appearance, the Xiaomi 12 Lite has the advantage of being more expensive-looking than the Galaxy A53 and Reno7. In contrast, the Galaxy A53 distinguishes out due to its IP67 rating, a trait that sets Samsung’s mid-range phones apart from the competition.

The Galaxy A53 and Reno7 both support MicroSD card expansion, but neither of the three phones has a headphone jack. All three have USB-C ports.

Display and speakers

Thanks to their quick 120hz refresh rates, the Galaxy A53 and Xiaomi 12 Lite both offer displays that are superior to the Reno6. The Xiaomi 12 Lite features a 10-bit panel, which equates to a wider color range for supporting HDR10 and Dolby Vision video. The other two phones all have AMOLED displays with a punch-hole and an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The Galaxy A53 and Xiaomi 12 Lite both have dual speakers in addition to the display.

Cameras

Even though the Galaxy A53 features OIS, which gives it an advantage on paper, the Xiaomi 12 Lite has a larger sensor and a greater resolution. The Xiaomi 12 Lite makes up for its lack of OIS in terms of video quality with superb EIS.

We favor the Reno7 and Xiaomi 12 Lite’s strategies for minimizing the number of stat-stuffing cameras, even though the Galaxy A53 has an ultra-wide angle camera with a greater resolution.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite adds eye tracking autofocus and two LED lights to help in recording better and clearer selfies than the Galaxy A53 and Reno7. All three phones employ a 32-megapixel camera for selfies, putting them on almost equal footing.

Internals

Despite the fact that the Galaxy A53 and Xiaomi 12 Lite also have 8GB/128GB and 6GB/128GB variants, respectively, all three phones have 8GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. According to our tests, the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s Snapdragon 778G processor is the best of the three, with the Reno7’s Dimensity 900 coming in a close second. The processor is the biggest difference between the three.

In spite of the fact that all three phones ship with Android 12 out of the box, Samsung provides the most comprehensive support, including up to four years of major software updates and five years of security updates. A minimum of two significant software updates and three years of security updates are promised for the Xiaomi 12 Lite and Reno7, respectively.

Battery

With a powerful 5000mAh battery that, depending on use, may keep up with you for more than a day, the Galaxy A53 takes the lead among smartphones in terms of battery life. With faster charging rates—67w on the Reno7 and 65w on the Xiaomi 12 Lite—both devices make up for their smaller batteries.

Both the Xiaomi 12 Ltie and Reno7 can last a day with regular use, despite having a lower battery than the Galaxy A53, according to our tests.

While the Galaxy A53 costs Php 23,490 for the same setup, the Reno7 costs Php 26,999 for the lone 8GB/256GB option. Two additional Galaxy A53 models are available, with prices starting at Php 20,490 for a 6GB/128GB model and Php 21,490 for an 8GB/128GB model.

The price of the Xiaomi 12 Lite, on the other hand, is Php 20,990 for the 6GB/128GB model and Php 21,990 for the 8GB/128GB variant. The Xiaomi 12 Lite is a competitive phone with its SoC of choice, great performance for both the primary and selfie cameras, and aggressive pricing compared to the Galaxy A53 and Reno7.
