Vivo S7 Series is where the company’s best bang-for-the-buck phones are. They pack great design, great performance, and even great display for their prices. Thanks to the unending upward trend of smartphone prices, OEMs are forced to release more devices to cover all ground. Enter Vivo S9 — the company’s premium mid-range or “affordable flagship” tier. Slated to be released on March 9, the S9 specs got leaked ahead of launch; and we like what we’re seeing.

Like most phones today, Vivo S9 is a 5G-capable phone already. However, it’s using MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 1100 chip. Practically speaking, it’s an overclocked version of the Dimensity 1000 last year. It appears that we’re about to see 6.44″ display size to be a trend this year, a tad smaller than last year’s 6.5″. Nevertheless, that’s coupled with a 90Hz refresh rate and OLED.

Vivo is pairing the chip with an enormous 12GB RAM. We’re not sure why, but that’s a nice bonus if the company will be able to price the phone reasonably. As per usual, there’s a 44MP selfie camera, albeit in a notch. At the back is a 64MP camera, probably alongside ultrawide and depth lenses. There’s a 4000mAh battery, which may not be enough for the fast screen, but the 33W fast charger aims to remedy that.

Lastly, Vivo S9 is running the new skin from the company — OriginOS 1 based on Android 11.

It’s hard to gauge the probable price of the Vivo S9, but if history is any indication, it may be more expensive than usual.
