Add Vivo S7 to the list of affordable 5G phones in 2020
Snapdragon 765g phones are becoming more and more popular these days, as demand for 5G increases (not by the consumer, but carriers). With the announcement of Vivo S7 in China, it’s the company’s second (or third) phone with the said chipset. But aside from good processing capability, Vivo doubles down the camera performance.
Instead of using a pill-shaped cutout, Vivo opted with a small notch to house two selfie cameras. Though outdated, we don’t really mind, provided there’s a 44MP selfie camera capable of autofocus and 4K@60fps video recording, and an 8MP ultrawide. Only a few are capable of 4K recording, but it’s rare to see 60fps at UHD, especially for a mid-range phone. On the back of the S7 are three cameras acting like four — 64MP for the main sensor, 2MP for depth, and 8MP for ultrawide and macro. While we appreciate Vivo’s stance here, the camera module itself is a bit weird. But then again, this is subjective.
If there’s a catch here, that’s the lack of audio jack (though, Vivo claims hi-res audio on USB-C port) and MicroSD slot. I guess you can include 90Hz as well. The screen is of AMOLED, featuring FHD+ resolution in a 20:9 aspect ratio. And yes, there’s an in-display scanner. The battery is rated 4000mAh, which is standard today. But, bundled in the box is a 33W fast-charging brick.
Vivo S7 comes in black white and gradient blue, aka Monet color. The 8GB/128GB is available for CNY 2,800(~P19,600) starting August 8, with the 256GB for CNY 3,100(~P21,800), shipping at a later date.
