TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, is set to meet with top EU officials in Brussels next week. This visit, his second to Brussels, comes at a time when TikTok is facing increased regulatory scrutiny regarding its role in the spread of disinformation, particularly in the context of recent events like Hamas’ attack on Israel and the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

Chew is scheduled to meet with EU industry chief Thierry Breton on November 6 and with EU digital chief Vera Jourova and EU antitrust chief Didier Reynders on November 7.
During these meetings, he plans to provide updates on TikTok’s data security initiative known as Project Clover, which involves storing European user data locally, a move that started this year. TikTok currently has a data center in Dublin, Ireland, and is in the process of building two more in Ireland and Norway.
Additionally, Chew will brief the EU commissioners on TikTok’s efforts to comply with the new EU online content regulations outlined in the Digital Services Act.
These regulations require major tech companies to take more substantial measures in combating illegal and harmful online content on their platforms.
Notably, Breton had previously set deadlines for TikTok to provide information on crisis response measures and details on how the platform safeguards the integrity of elections and protects minors online.
