Due to Winter Storm Uri, Samsung has temporarily halted its chip production in Austin, Texas. This has left 200,000 Texans without power due to the power outages.

Austin Energy power utility issued an early notice which gave Samsung time to take measures to not damage the tens of thousands of silicon wafers that are being produced in the plant. If ever an unplanned power outage might happen, Samsung would be looking at millions of damages in their production.

In their Texas fab, it has been reported that Samsung is manufacturing 14nm processors.

Austin is also home to other huge manufacturers such as NXP Semiconductors and Infineon Semiconductors. It would seem that Apple’s Mac Pro, which also manufactures in Austin, Texas, had already taken precautions and closed production as of the moment.

Austin Energy said to its residents that the power outage would last through Wednesday.
