As scheduled, Redmi India has announced the successor of its popular Redmi Note 8 series from last year. Meet Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. No vanilla Redmi Note 9 was announced, but, our guess is that that’s going to be for a separate event. However, the company did release a “Max” model. That said, here’s the price breakdown for the two mid-range devices:
The standard “Pro” model will be available in India starting March 17, while the “Max” model will start selling on March 25. Now, for the specs.
Starting with Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, it features Snapdragon 720G that was seen first on Realme 6 Pro. The same goes for the 64MP quad-cameras on the back, however, Redmi’s handset lacks a telephoto lens. Instead, it’s using two 5MP lenses for macro and depth assistance. As you may have guessed, the last lens is an 8MP ultrawide. The company is adding a few interesting features for the native camera app, such as RAW photo and 21:9 cinema-wide video. For the selfie camera, there’s a 32MP sensor powered by AI. That camera is housed inside a pinhole like Samsung Galaxy S20.
Unlike most mid-range phones today, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max continues to lead ahead in material as it uses glass. It comes in blue, white, and black colors with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for the back, front, and main cameras. For a large handset, expect a large battery, too, at 5020mAh. It supports 33W fast charging which comes out of the box. Redmi is claiming you can play PUBG for up to 11 hours. While charging half of the battery will require 30 minutes only. As for the screen, the 6.67″ FHD+ Dot Display has splash resistance but lacks a fast refresh rate. It’s still using the standard 60Hz. On the brighter side, there’s the Z-axis vibration motor that should provide better haptic feedback.
For the Redmi Note 9 Pro, you can expect nearly the same spec sheet. Expect a lower charging rate with the 18W charging brick. The selfie camera uses a 16MP sensor but still with AI and slo-mo support. Furthermore, the quad cameras are headlined by Samsung GM2 48MP sensor.
Global availability of the Redmi Note 9 series remains to be seen.
