Which is a better buy between the Realme X2 and Redmi Note 8 Pro?
Design and Display
There’s almost no difference when it comes to the design of the two phones. For what it’s worth, Realme XT has a polycarbonate frame which is weaker against scratches. If you’re the clumsy type, Redmi Note 8 Pro’s splash-resistant build will come in handy.
In the display department, it’s up to you whether you like the punchy colors of Super AMOLED or the natural tone and wide viewing angles of IPS LCD. Either way, both are with 1080p resolution display.

Performance
Redmi Note 8 Pro’s position as a budget gaming phone isn’t a fluke. It’s the better phone if we’re to compare its gaming-centric Helio G90T vs Realme XT’s Snapdragon 712. Although you might get better battery life on the latter, the former will surely deliver better all-around performance. Additionally, there’s liquid cooling technology that helps in controlling operating temps for Redmi’s device. When it comes to spec configuration, both can go up to 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
Cameras
With four cameras in tow and a massive 64MP sensor making a debut, neither of the two were able to set itself apart. Each sensor is the same. Which means difference will depend on each brand’s image post-processing. Video-wise both again can record up to 4K @ 30fps and up to 960fps slo-mo.
If we’re talking about selfies, Redmi Note 8 Pro makes use of a 20MP sensor. On paper, it looks better than Realme XT’s 16MP. However, this small difference nearly don’t matter in the real world.
Battery and Charging
While battery longevity depends on a user’s usage and software optimization, Redmi Note 8 Pro’s 4500mAh is assuring. Realme XT isn’t too shabby at all with 4000mAh capacity. Although we gave it the advantage of having a faster-charging technology, Redmi isn’t too far behind at 18W.
Conclusion
There are no official local prices yet for these devices. But in China, Redmi Note 8 Pro has a starting price of CNY 1399 or P10k. In India, Realme XT starts at Rs. 15,999 or ~P11,600. Both for 6GB/64GB model. That said, Redmi’s latest budget phone is more appealing because of the features it brings with. But if Realme can manage to undercut its competition, the package that it offers will be appealing. It’s already scheduled for next year to receive the latest Android version, comes with Super AMOLED display, and under-screen fingerprint scanner if you’re into that.
