The Facebook page of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has once again been compromised by hackers, marking the fourth cyber attack this year. The breach occurred around midday, 12:30 PM, with unidentified individuals gaining unauthorized access to the page.
Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson, Rear Admiral Armand Balilo, reported the posting of two harmful videos during the breach.
This incident mirrors a previous attack in February, where the PCG’s Facebook page was similarly compromised. It took the PCG four days to regain control of its page after the February attack. Earlier in the same month, the PCG’s X (formerly Twitter) page also fell victim to a temporary hack.
Furthermore, in February, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) disclosed cyberattacks targeting the PCG’s website and other government sites, originating from an IP address linked to China.
How can organizations like the Philippine Coast Guard better safeguard their online platforms against cyber attacks?
