The Philippine government and Meta have agreed to strengthen cooperation in addressing online threats, harmful content, and risks involving children and young people.
The agreement was reached during a meeting involving Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, Meta representatives, and officials from various government agencies.
As mentioned in our previous report, the government and Meta will create a technical working group to improve coordination and response times when dealing with harmful content.
In related news, TV Patrol/ABC-CBN reported that the DICT plans to ask Meta to integrate the Philippine National ID into account verification for its social media platforms.
Aguda said the proposal was raised during a recent meeting in Singapore and compared it with Roblox’s planned user verification measures.
Aguda said the latest commitments are only a starting point and stressed that government and platform measures should also be supported by parental involvement in keeping young users safe online.
Meta representatives are expected to visit Manila to formalize the cooperation framework with the Philippine government. Stay tuned.
