Oppo reno 3 was about to launch on March 2020 but due to the Pandemic, it was moved in April. And those who pre-ordered the device last month, you will start to receive your item on May 16th onwards. The official price of this device is P18,990 while the Oppo Reno 3 Pro costs P28,990.

Slick Design
This Oppo Reno 3 vanilla version is an elegant looking smartphone. By looking at the back you will see a slick chromatic and smooth polycarbonate texture. It also has the unique design that can be seen on the pro version which is the fixed 3D light line pointing towards the camera module. You can also find an oppo logo name below that now looks premium.
The design of the Oppo Reno 3 is very different from its predecessor. It now has a teardrop notch housing a 44MP front camera instead of the motorized triangular-shaped pop-up camera. It’s no longer a glass back texture as well and it now has a huge camera bump. It is more of a downgrade in terms of design and builds and cheaper compare to Oppo Reno 2.

Display
Reno 3 sports a 6.4″ FHD+ AMOLED screen and since it is not full screen anymore, the STB ratio dropped down. But the quality of the screen itself is stunning, It has 16M colors and 411 PPI density. It also has an OSIE Vision Effect which boosts the colors of the screen to become more vibrant. There’s nothing special about the build of the screen other than AMOLED, but it has stunning and solid colors and nice viewing angles.
Full Package Camera
This is the main highlight of this phone. It only has 48MP Main Camera compared to the pro version with 64MP but we know that big Megapixel is not always reliable. It does useful when you crop the photo because it preserves details, or to print it on a billboard, but on the daily use, you can settle with the 48MP. Also, the main camera is binned down to 12MP so the usual photos you’ll get are just 12MP shots, but you can enable the 48MP mode in the top left corner of the camera app. 12MP binned down still took great quality with natural colors and balanced exposure. Here are some sample shots.
The next camera is an 8MP Ultrawide lens. What we noticed on the ultrawide lens is that it has an autofocus system so even in close up shots you can get a good variety of pictures. And another thing, it has brighter exposure compared to the main lens probably because it was programmed for landscape shots. But overall the quality of pictures is decent even at low light, especially in night mode.
Next, we have the 13MP 52mm Telephoto lens. Decent quality shots start at 2X and ends in 5X zoom. It can zoom up to 20X although it will start to introduce noise and grains. It has Stabilization and Autofocus that reduces motion blur and nail focus, useful when shooting far away subjects.
Though it doesn’t have a macro lens, shooting Macro using the Telephoto lens is applicable and it produces surprising detailed macro shots.
The last lens is a 2MP B/W portrait lens which helps to produce bokehlicious photos.
Camera Features
Oppo Reno 3 has a wide variety of camera features including video stabilization, pixel interpolation, and long exposure shots. This includes Night Mode and Tripod Mode which shoots a 30-second long exposure shot to produce more exposed and brighter images at night and low light. You may wanna use a tripod to prevent blurry images
Then we have the 108MP Pixel Interpolation. this will enable the camera to shoot at a whopping 108MP, although it is not a real 108MP it is surprising to see it has this feature. The boosted photo is still useful though the quality isn’t natural compared to the real 48MP lens.
Chicken Head Stabilization
The video recording shoots up to 4k@30 frames, but you have an option to choose 1080p 60fps. What’s great about the video recording feature is that it has an Ultra Steady and Ultra Steady Pro which shoots 1080p 60fps and 30 fps footage respectively. The Ultra Steady Pro records video at a gimbal-like stabilization and it is so satisfying to see in a midrange phone. There are more camera features like slo-mo, expert mode, timelapse, and panorama.

Switching to the front camera it has a 44MP selfie shooter and records 1080p footages @ 30 frames. The selfies have sharp and deep contrast but it balanced from the shadows thus result in deeper blacks without losing details.
Performance
Under the hood, the Reno 3 is powered by Mediatek Helio P90 Octacore chipset with 8GB of ram and 128GB of internal storage. It runs in Android 10.0 on top of ColorOS 7. We tested some benchmark on this device and it was scored good and placed in the ranking higher than other midrange phones. There is no problem with playing games on this device. Even if it’s running at FHD+ resolution with High Settings, it is still smooth and stutter-free.

Clean and Seamless UI
We believed that Color OS 7 took a huge part in optimizing the power of its chipset. The OS is pretty stable and has tons of features that are pretty useful. Some of it are the Smart Sidebar, Split Screen, Soloop( built-in video editor), Gamespace app that optimizes the gaming performance, Screen Recorder, Darkmode which is pretty useful since it is an AMOLED panel and Etc. The experience is satisfying and seamless. It has an under the display fingerprint and face unlock. If you want to use the face unlock, we suggest you enable the raise to wake feature to feel the fast and comfortable experience.
Battery
There’s not much upgrade with the battery from its predecessor. From 4000mAh to 4025mAh battery. The device can last a day when doing normal things like browsing the net, managing social media, etc. It’s not the largest capacity but with a 30W Vooc 3.0 fast charging you can fully charged it from 0-100% in less than an hour and a half.
Crispy Audio
As for the audio, it is a single firing speaker located underneath the device. It sounds not so bassy but it is pretty loud and clear. Even you turn up the volume to maximum, there is no distortion or audio cracks at all.
Overall
Not everyone can afford a flagship phone but what’s good is that you can choose decent quality midrange phones that are cheaper but with superb, excellent quality, and tons of features. Again the price of this phone in the Philippine market is P18,990 compared to the pro version that is priced P28,990, at 10k difference price range you will get a dual 44mp selfie camera, higher camera specs, and a higher chipset. But if you are aiming for a worthy price, Oppo Reno 3 is bang for the bucks. The camera has a wide variety of cool and useful features, the display is stunning and vibrant, and it has a comfortable user-experience. You will be satisfied with what you will pay for.
