A few days ago, nubia launched its new entry-level smartphone in the local market, the nubia V80 Max.
At a price under PHP10K let’s see how it performs in gaming. Sadly, due to limited storage, we were unable to install some large games.

First, we have Mobile Legends. By default, the settings are set to high, but we will max out all available options and see if it runs smoothly. Even at max settings, the performance was smooth.

There were some noticeable FPS drops, but they were rare. We got consistent FPS even during team fights, which is nice. However, the main menu is a bit slow due to visual clutter. If this is the only game you play, then this device is good enough.
FPS Result: 56-88 FPS.

Next up is League of Legends: Wild Rift. By default, the settings are set to Quality with 30 FPS. We increased it to 120 FPS to see if this device can handle it. The opening sequence and main menu showed a lot of frame drops and low responsiveness.

Loading times were also slow, which isn’t ideal. During gameplay, FPS often ran below 60, especially in team fights. It was somewhat smooth, but not as smooth as Mobile Legends. For its price, though, it’s decent.
FPS Result: 45–73 FPS (max settings)

Next, we have Call of Duty: Mobile. Default settings were Low with Medium frame rate. We bumped the frame rate to max to test performance.

During gameplay, FPS was consistent outside of gunfights, but during shooting, FPS started to dip and the device struggled a bit. Aiming down sights felt slightly delayed, and there were minor stutters when firing. Still, the game is playable.
FPS Result: 46–60 FPS (Low graphics with Max frame rate)

Next is Asphalt Legends. Default settings were Low with 30 FPS. We increased it to 60 FPS, and the first thing we noticed was significant lag in the menu.

During gameplay, even at 60 FPS settings, we didn’t manage to go past 30 FPS. Performance was consistent across different maps but remained below ideal FPS. The game is playable, but I’m not sure if everyone would enjoy it.
FPS Result: 17–24 FPS (Low graphics with 60 FPS)

Lastly, we have Genshin Impact. We played on the lowest possible settings with 60 FPS enabled. During our Abyss playthrough, surprisingly, performance was smoother than expected, despite the low FPS.

Minor FPS drops occurred when swapping characters or activating ultimate skills. Still, I wouldn’t recommend this device for exploration or endgame tasks.
FPS Result: 24–32 FPS (Low settings with 60 FPS)
We were unable to test Wuthering Waves due to storage limitations. Downloading and unpacking large files on the nubia V80 Max takes a long time.
For reference, Genshin Impact took around six hours to fully download its assets on a fast, stable connection.

Overall, the nubia V80 Max can handle casual gaming, especially titles like Mobile Legends, Wild Rift, and Call of Duty Mobile.
However, it is not ideal for entry-level gaming, as there are other devices in the same segment that offer better performance.
That’s our gaming test of the nubia V80 Max. Share your thoughts on its performance in the comments.
