WhatsApp is rolling out new security features.
These new features are designed to give users more protection against account takeovers and suspicious calls.
The app is upgrading its two-step verification from a six-digit PIN to a stronger password that can be longer, use letters and numbers, and include special characters.
On Android, WhatsApp will also show more information about calls from unknown numbers.
Users may see whether the caller is from another country and whether they share any groups, giving them more context before answering.
WhatsApp also said more than 1 billion people are now using passkeys. Passkeys let users sign back in using their fingerprint, Face ID, or screen lock instead of a PIN or verification code.
Users with both Android and iOS devices can now add more than one passkey to their account.
According to WhatsApp, it will continue developing tools to improve account security and help users stay in control of their accounts.
