Apple is reportedly evaluating DRAM memory chips from Chinese chipmaker ChangXin Memory Technologies.
According to a report from the Financial Times, the company has begun testing the chips as part of its efforts to expand its supply of memory components.
The reported testing is currently focused on devices intended for the Chinese market.
The report follows earlier claims that Apple has been asking the U.S. government to allow it to source memory chips from CXMT.

The company is currently included on a U.S. blacklist over alleged ties to the Chinese military. Apple has also reportedly explored working with another Chinese memory manufacturer, Yangtze Memory Technologies Co.
Apple is said to be considering additional suppliers as memory chip costs remain high across the industry.
However, no decision has been announced, and there is no confirmation that CXMT chips will be used in future Apple products.
