Meta’s Threads Hits 100 Million Users in 5 Days

Meta’s new social media platform, which has been called the “Twitter Killer,” just reached 100 million sign-ups in less than a week, beating ChatGPT’s record as the fastest-growing online platform to reach the milestone.

Threads, a new microblogging app that came out on July 6, 2023, has been breaking records ever since. People from all over the world have joined the site. CEO Mark Zuckerberg was pleased with the growth. He said that the numbers were due to “organic demand” and that they had not yet started advertising.

Twitter, on the other hand, hasn’t been doing that well. As of 2022, it had nearly 240 million daily active users, but Reuters says that number has been going down since Elon Musk took over.

According to Similarweb, Twitter’s web traffic dropped by 11% in the days after the start of the new Meta platform. This was a bigger drop than the 4% drop from the previous year. The CEO of the Internet services company Cloudfare showed a graph that showed a similar trend and said that Twitter’s web traffic was going down. Twitter doesn’t agree. On July 11, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino tweeted that the site had its “largest usage day” since February 2023.

Threads—Meta’s New Platform—How Is It Different?

At first glance, this new text-based chat room looks like Instagram. As you go through the feed, though, it starts to feel like Twitter. But there are a few big differences that could make this site a real rival.

Users of Threads on Meta will be able to post up to 500 characters, while non-subscribers on Twitter can only post up to 280 characters. But if you buy a verification badge from Twitter, the site will let you use up to 25,000 characters.

You can only delete your Threads account if you delete your Instagram. The two apps are linked, and according to the privacy policy, you can only turn off your Threads profile—for now, you can’t delete it.
