M1 and M2-based Macs Support Windows 11 Officially

Microsoft unveiled a limited approach to running Windows 11 on ARM-based Macs. Microsoft allows Parallels Desktop 18 to run ARM editions of Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise on M1– and M2-based Macs in an official support document. It is good news for Windows users who work, but there are limits.

Microsoft is phasing out 32-bit applications for all ARM Windows builds, meaning you can’t use 32-bit ARM programs. Devices require Windows 11 and ARM drivers, Android apps, the Linux subsystem, and Windows Sandbox will also be inaccessible. Finally, DirectX 12 or OpenGL 3.3 games won’t operate.

In 2021, ARM Macs might run Windows 11 in Parallels with an Insider preview. Using the authorized method, Parallels Desktop 18 users may easily download and install Windows 11. The company’s licensing woes will lessen, but Microsoft’s impact is unknown.
