iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS via Satellite Rescues Two Hikers in New Zealand

iPhone 14 Emergency SOS

The iPhone 14’s SOS feature, which is powered by satellites, lets users call for help even when they are in areas without cell service.

The hikers in New Zealand were caught off guard by a rising stream that stuck them to the bank of the river. The satellite function helped them get in touch with rescue workers, who came right away to help.

But the Canterbury West Air Rescue Service stressed how important PLBs are even though smartphone technology is changing all the time. They said, “Because it’s pretty new technology, Personal Locator Beacons are still a good idea for traveling.”

On the other hand, Huawei has also been slowly improving its satellite skills. China Telecom users can now make calls through satellite with the newly released Mate 60 Pro. This makes the smartphone race even more competitive.

There’s no denying how useful Apple’s SOS tool is, especially now that it will be in the new iPhone 15 series. The event in New Zealand should still serve as a warning to people who like to go on adventures to always stay safe.
