How to Request TIN Online Using BIR eReg

Can you get a TIN or a tax identification number online? Getting a TIN is one way that the Internet has made it easier and more convenient for Filipinos to do business with the government. This article will show you how to use the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) eReg website to get a TIN.

The BIR eReg is a web application that lets Filipinos and people who live in the Philippines register as taxpayers without having to go to a BIR branch. The BIR eReg lets you get your TIN online, pay your registration fees online, and print your Certificate of Registration. Since the BIR eReg is still pretty new, some things, like paying income taxes, can only be done online later. We hope that these kinds of items will be available soon.

Online, the following people can ask for an eTIN or TIN:

  • Self-employed (such as single proprietors and professionals)
  • Mixed-income earners (individuals who are both employees and single proprietors)
  • Employees
  • Individuals who are qualified under Executive Order No. 98

After getting a TIN, single proprietors and professionals must pay the ₱500 registration fee at one of the Authorized Agent Banks (AAB) in the BIR Regional District Office (RDO) listed in the email notification or through the BIR eFPS system.

How to Get an Online TIN Number as a Self-Employed Person?

You must use the BIR eReg website to apply for a TIN online. Please remember that you should only sign up for this if you still need to. Please only move forward if you have already signed up for this or have a TIN. It is against the law to register more than one TIN.

Ensure you have a working email address because the BIR will confirm your TIN number to this address. I suggest you use a Gmail email address instead of a Yahoo one because Gmail is more reliable.

Open the BIR eReg website on your computer or smartphone.

Fill up the online form.

Enter your basic information as a taxpayer. Check every detail twice before you click the “Submit” button. Enter your basic information as a taxpayer. Check every detail twice before you click the “Submit” button. All done! You now have your TIN.

Please keep track of your new TIN because you will need it when you start a business or get a job. Also, if you are a sole proprietor or a professional, remember to pay the ₱500 registration fee.

TIN Number for Bank Account

If you want to open a bank account and don’t have a TIN yet, get a TIN from your nearest BIR RDO branch instead of applying online.

Based on my experience, you will need to secure a letter from the bank requesting a TIN, which you will then give to the BIR RDO officer.
