Biometric Data : Texas sued Google, saying that the tech giant took and used biometric information about its residents without their permission.
In the lawsuit, the state says that Google used products and services like Google Photos. Google Assistant, and Nest Hub Max to get biometric identifiers like voiceprints and records of face geometry.
In a statement, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sa “Google’s indiscriminate collection of the personal information of Texans, including very sensitive information like biometric identifiers, will not be tolerated,”
José Castaeda, a Google spokesperson, reportedly said that Google will set the record straight in court.
Castaeda said, “AG Paxton is once again mischaracterizing our products in another breathless lawsuit,”
Google Photos has a feature that lets users organize pictures of people by grouping those with similar faces together. It was pointed out that this feature is only available to the user and can be turned off at any time.
The Nest Hub Max, which is both a smart speaker and a screen. Has an option that lets it recognize its users by their voice and face.
The fight between Texas and Google is the latest in a long line of privacy-related. Lawsuits that states have filed against big tech companies.
