According to a lawsuit, Sony’s PlayStation Store has continuously overcharged customers through its system practices, putting it in big trouble. Keep things simple by breaking them down in layman’s terms.

You can find all content you need for the Sony PlayStation consoles in the Sony PlayStation Store, an online library. This library contains all PlayStation games for devices that are still support. In addition to those that are free, some are paid. You can also buy additional in-game items and downloadable content through the online marketplace. Genshin Impact, a multiplatform game, is one of the items that pass through PS Store gates.

Herein lies the problem. Using this platform requires game developers and companies to pay royalties to Sony. Alex Neill, an activist and former managing director of consumer advice organization of WhichUK. According to her, Sony charges a 30% commission for every game and in-game purchase made through the PlayStation Store.

These items’ prices must be increase for game developers to remain profitable. As a result, consumers suffer the brunt of the damage. Without interest, damages are calculate between £67 and £562 (₱4431 and ₱37167). Even a multinational giant like Sony would pay a hefty price for that.

Neil stated, “With this legal action, I stand up for the millions of UK people who have been unwittingly overcharged. We believe Sony has abused its position and ripped off its customers,”

Additionally, “gaming is now the biggest entertainment industry in the UK, ahead of TV, video, and music, and many vulnerable people rely on gaming for community and connection. The actions of Sony cost millions of people who can’t afford it. Particularly when we’re amid a cost of living crisis and the consumer purse is being squeeze like never before.”

According to Natasha Pearman, the partner handling the case against Sony PlayStation, Sony has implemented an anticompetitive environment that violates consumers’ rights. They will fight for consumers through legal action and help them receive compensation for what they’ve done wrong.
