Five years after ABS-CBN announced its TVPlus black box, which is essentially a digital television box, GMA seems to be following suit as leaks of GMA Affordabox have been circulating online recently. Right now, the mobile-only MyGMA Go is the network’s available DTT service.
While we’re still waiting for an official announcement, a video showcasing the Affordabox’s UI reveals what to expect. Obviously, it works like every DTT receiver; featuring a nationwide emergency broadcast system and multimedia player. However, a report suggests the inclusion of a personal video recorder. This feature was not shown in the video but if proven to be true, that’s the type of feature that will separate the Affordabox from its competitors.
Nevertheless, we’ll just have to wait until GMA releases an official announcement. As of writing, the network advises digital TV box users to re-scan on June 12 to be able to watch GMA, GMA News TV, and Heart of Asia.
