Exclusive Motorcycle Lanes Coming to Metro Manila

Motorcycle Lanes Coming to Metro Manila

Our city streets are not a good place to ride a motorcycle. This November, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will start putting in lanes just for motorcycles in Metro Manila, and this is good news.

The first motorcycle lane will be put on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

With the help of these lanes, MMDA hopes to cut down on car accidents and even improve traffic flow. This is because there were more than 26,000 motorcycle accidents in 2021.

1 26Also, the local agency said that they are looking into how these lanes could be added to EDSA. Reports say that MMDA will put the motorcycle lane on the far-right street of EDSA. Before 2020, the second left lane on EDSA was for motorcycles; however, that lane is now used by the EDSA carousel.

Carlo Dimayuga III, the acting chairman of the MMDA, says that the separate lanes for motorcycles in Metro Manila will cut down on car accidents and make it easier for cars to move around.

Representative Bonifacio Bosita of the 1-Rider party list said that motorcycle groups also wanted these lanes to keep people from getting hurt on the road.
