Despite having a significantly smaller battery than Android counterparts and faster wireless charging speed, Apple’s iPhone 12 disappoints in charging time.

The benefit and convenience of wireless charging are undeniable compared to wired charging; however, the main downside to it is the slower charging speed.

If a wired charger can go up to 40W, a wireless charger is usually limited to 10W-15W. But there are some cases when wireless charging is very fast, much like OnePlus 8 Pro’s 40W Warp Charger. Unfortunately, this type of wireless charger is limited to first-party devices only and doesn’t work as effectively with other devices.

Based on GSMArena’s testing, the 2815mAh battery of the iPhone 12 requires a full three hours to go from 0-100%. Additionally, the first 30% requires 30 minutes of charging.

To give context, my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with 4000mAh battery that supports 10W wireless requires 2 hours and 30 minutes. Take note: that’s with nearly double the capacity and 33% slower charging rate.

On the bright side, the 20W fast-charging capability of the iPhone 12 is relatively fast — requiring an hour and 30 mins to a full tank and 30 minus to 58%.

While wired charging is still the way to go if you need fast top-ups, the iPhone 12 Series doesn’t ship with any charging brick, thus forcing buyers to buy a separate 20W charging brick from Apple or other retailers.
