The most recent DigiTimes story states that Apple’s mixed reality (XR) headset will go into commercial production by March 2023. The device’s primary supplier is anticipated to be the Chinese contract manufacturer Pegatron. Apple is rumored to unveil the XR headset at an event in April 2023, albeit there will be a minimum initial supply.
According to the source, the first supply for the Apple XR headset in the first year would be between 700,000 and 800,000 units, which is less than the 2.5 million units that had been previously predicted. While Pegatron and others will fill these orders to be better positioned for potential AR/VR products, the lower supply values will not make the XR headset viable for vendors.
The company has already patented the term Reality One, which is thought to be connected to Apple’s MX headset project. Previous rumors predicted an announcement in January 2023, pre-orders in the second quarter, and open sales around WWDC in June.
