Biden Administration on New Restrictions for China’s Tech Exports

USA and China have had a pretty intense relationship for the past two years which resulted in the infamous “Huawei ban” over the State. Now, with Trump’s administration has come to a close, a number of smartphone developers are looking forward to regaining their footing under Biden’s term. However, this might not happen soon enough.

According to Reuters, the US government will “look at adding new targeted restrictions on certain sensitive technology exports to China in cooperation with allies.” This information was given by an unnamed US senior official which was before US President Biden’s call with China’s President Xi Jinping.

Furthermore, it is also said that the current trade tariffs on China, which was imposed under Trump’s term, would not be lifted and plans to “conduct intense consultation and review with US allies.” In addition, the Biden administration is ensuring that “it is not supplying highly sensitive technology that can advance China’s military capabilities.”

Although it is too early to tell whatever the decisions in the near future, this would either break or strengthen the smartphone industry in the US and with its allies.
