Microsoft and Volkswagen are partnering up to produce autonomous vehicles. With this partnership, Microsoft would be using its skills and resources in cloud technology to help with the development of the German carmaker’s self-driving model.

The two companies have already entered a deal before with the deployment of Microsoft’s cloud technology for connected cars. Now it seems that Volkswagen is planning to further develop their relationship by applying Microsoft’s cloud technology to fully autonomous vehicles. With Microsoft’s Azure Cloud computing platform, this would help the carmaker to create their Automated Driving Platform (ADP) which would be the backbone for future developments in autonomous driving systems.

Using Microsoft Azure would prove beneficial to Volkswagen. It would not only be secure and fast in collecting data but it would also be capable to contain the huge data the Autonomous Driving Platform would need. It would also help speed up the development cycle of the autonomous driving systems from months to weeks.

With the increasing demand for autonomous vehicles, a lot of carmakers are beginning to partner with tech companies and help them expand and make autonomous driving a reality. Also, with the current rise of demand for 5G technology and cloud technology, there is a big possibility that this would revolutionize even driving in the near future.

Volkswagen is an addition to the growing list of partners along with General Motors and Cruise who are utilizing the potential of Microsoft Azure when it comes to enhancing and making self-driving systems a reality.
