
That famous “One More Thing” line from Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is getting a standalone event on November 10. Judging from the teasers and leaks, we all know it’s all about the new Macbooks with ARM chipset instead of Intel.
Several months ago, Apple announced its plans to switch from Intel chipsets to its ARM chipset for the late 2020 Macbooks. And the reason for that is the same as it was in 2005: to get better performance while keeping low-power consumption. With Intel struggling to produce 7nm chipsets — getting beaten by AMD by three generations — Apple just can’t let Intel slow down its ever-changing product lineup.
Though Microsoft and Qualcomm have been releasing ARM-based laptops for the past two years, the lack of 64-bit app support makes the experience forgettable. But with Apple’s ecosystem at the center of its ARM initiative, we just might see Cupertino pave the way for an ARM-based future.
We’ve seen how powerful iPad Pros are when it comes to intense workloads, such as editing 4K video with virtually no stutters when scrubbing through RAW footage. The only thing that’s holding it back is iPadOS because it’s made for singular tasks.
