Netflix Increases Plan Prices; Global Market To Follow Suit?

Netflix is increasing its prices once again since January 2019. The new change in plan pricing takes effect immediately in the US. That said, the standard plan is now $14 a month ($1 increase) and the premium plan is now $18 a month ($2 increase). However, the cheapest plan remains $9 a month. With that in mind, should the global market be concerned about this price increase? No. At least, not for now.

The price hike only applies to the US as Netflix tries to offer more films and series in the near future. According to the streaming platform, talking to The Vergeincreasing its prices means giving more content for users to watch, “so that we can continue to offer more variety of TV shows and films.”

Although the change “in the US does not influence or indicate a global price change,” the company tends to apply hikes per country as it recently did to Canada this month. If that’s not an indication, we don’t know what is.

For now, the Philippines and other countries are unaffected by this change.
