When we talked about YouTube, it was because their ads were getting too much. Now, it looks like YouTube is taking away another feature to make it more private. There are rumors that people may have to pay for YouTube Premium to watch videos in 4K resolution.
This rumor comes from Reddit user Ihatesmokealarms, who found the feature while watching videos. Since there isn’t much description, many people aren’t sure if this is a natural experimental feature or just some clever photo editing. It seems like Google is turning YouTube into a game by taking away parts and hiding them behind paywalls, which are the DLCs.
As expected, people were very upset about it on the internet. Many people are upset that Google keeps taking away essential features. ike this 4K video tool that many people use to set up their 4K HDR TVs. Some joked that they would leave YouTube if it kept going in this direction, while others suggested ways to get around the problem, such as using YouTube Vanced or a mobile browser to get to the site.
It doesn’t look like everyone’s devices have it yet, though. Users think that A/B testing is going on, which sets up an experimental group to see how people respond. It would be best for YouTube to give up on locking 4K videos behind a Premium membership.
YouTube added 4K videos years ago. YouTube now supports 8K videos. With that being say, 4K and better resolution videos may be exclusive to YouTube Premium in a few weeks or months.
No matter how this experiment turns out, Google should be able to see that if it continues to make money in this way, other options start to look a lot better. If these trends keep up, a new top video streaming app could take place in the next couple of years.
