Users of TikTok can now post text updates as well as videos and sets of photos. This is similar to how platforms like Meta’s Threads are trying to take over microblogging from Twitter.
Text posts look a lot like Instagram Stories where users can change the color of the background, change how the text looks, and add stickers and music to the post.
Posts can only have up to 1,000 characters. Other users can also participate with the post in the same ways they do with videos by stitching, dueting, and leaving comments.

Seeing the company that started the short-form video wave add text features is interesting in and of itself, but the time is also important to note.
Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, and a lot of other platforms are trying to present themselves as a good alternative to Twitter, or at least as something similar to what was fun about Twitter.
But as the platform loses features, users, and even its famous bird image, the door is open for other apps to step in. At least a little bit, TikTok seems to be interested.
