With TikTok, the number of third-party iPhone apps that can be logged in with a passkey has grown by one. People who use the famous video-sharing service will soon be able to sign in with their Apple ID passkey. This makes it easy for them to get into their account using Face ID or Touch ID. Since they are made up of a cryptographic key pair, passkeys are thought to be better than password logins.
One key is a public key that belongs to the website or service, and the other is a private key that can only be found on the user’s device. Services and apps like TikTok don’t have access to that secret key, and users can’t write it down or give it to anyone else. This makes passkeys resistant to data breaches and attempts by bad people to trick people into giving out their information. Before matching a user’s private key with a service’s public key, iOS devices use a user’s physical data to verify that they are who they say they are.
To use passkeys on TikTok for iPhones and iPads, their device must be running the latest version of iOS. Apple saves passkeys in its system for managing passwords, which means that their iCloud Keychain must also be turned on. Lastly, they need to turn on two-factor security for their Apple ID.
This month, TikTok will start adding support for passkeys in some parts of Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America. The video sharing site said that the feature would be available in other places and on other operating systems over time. This means that it will probably come to North America and Android devices.
Users who have access to the login option can turn it on by going to their Profile at the bottom of the app and then to Settings and Privacy in the Menu. From there, they need to choose Account and then tap iCloud passkey to get to the screen for setting up.
