Recently, Tecno Mobile unveiled their latest and most featured-pack smartphone in Nigeria–the Tecno Camon 18 Premier. It features a different level of capabilities like the high refresh rate, gimbal-like stabilization, and a periscope lens which are the characteristic of a Flagship device. If the device comes to the Philippine market, and if the price is just on the sweet spot, we want you to be the first to know the reasons for you to buy the Tecno Camon 18 Premier and why it should be on your list, so read along.

Gimbal OIS

One of the many things Tecno Camon 18 Premier has to offer is its Gimbal-like OIS. The company said that it is 300% stable than the traditional OIS. Optical Image Stabilization or OIS enables the camera to reduce shakiness without any help from software enhancement, giving cleaner stable footage. But take note that it only has a single S-type FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit), unlike the double S-type FPC that can be seen on the Vivo X50. But considering the price difference, the Tecno Camon 18 Premier specs are mid-range, so the OIS in a midranger is quite a unique ability.

We don’t have enough knowledge about its Stabilization feature inside the app yet. If so, the OIS plus the Stabilization mode will surely be a nice setup to produce stable and quality videos.

Flagship-level Display

As we mentioned, there are flagship-level specs on the Tecno Camon 18 Premier, and the display is one of the main highlights. The device boasts a large 6.7-inch FHD+ display with an AMOLED panel and 120Hz refresh rate. The 120Hz plus AMOLED is a pair of flagship-quality displays. It is also a characteristic of flagship-killer devices, and although the Redmi Note 10 Pro has it already, we are still satisfied to see those specs in the Tecno Camon 18 Premier.

Moreover, aside from the better viewing experience, it also has a 550nits brightness to ensure usability outdoors. There’s also a TÜV Rheinland certification on its screen to protect the eyes and lessen visual fatigue.

Cleaner Design

The Tecno Camon 18 Premier’s design is a refresher, and compared to the Camon 17 series, it received a more premium look. It is one of the reasons we are excited about the device. Meanwhile, its back has a silky glass texture that produces different colors at different angles while still safe to fingerprint smudges. The logo is also cleaned and placed in the bottom right corner. It is now a minimalist logo with a classy and premium style.

The company also said that the color of the Camon 18 Premier are inspired by nature, and it has two colorways– the Summer Breeze and Ocean Moonlight. The whole body is very distinct as well, it now has a flat design with rounded edges, and the camera bump looks more top-end thanks to the different lenses equipped in the device. Lastly, the device is slimmer with an 8.15mm thickness.

Tecno Camon 18 Premier has tons of features that are pretty unique to other smartphones. It has a Film Mode feature with professional filters, transitions, music, special effects, and a front and back camera transition. It is a fun and helpful feature for content creation.

Not to mention, it also has a night portrait video, portrait video bokeh, a super night mode that enhances the brightness using its night algorithm, and it has a customizable beauty mode perfect for selfies and to your subject. It also has a unique Super Moon feature where the Camon 18 Premiere uses the periscope lens plus its own galileo algorithm engine to enhance the resolution and clarity of the images. It is also the reason you can capture the moon, thanks to the 60x hybrid zoom.

Periscope Zoom Lens

Speaking of Zoom, again, the Tecno Camon 18 Premier has a unique camera lens that most flagship has. Aside from the 64MP primary snapper and 12MP Ultrawide, it also has an 8MP 135mm Persicope Telephoto lens with PDAF and can capture a 5X optical zoom up to 12x Digital Zoom. Adding them up and you can zoom up to 60x hybrid magnification, which is quite useful in some scenarios.

There’s also a super-resolution algorithm to help the camera process decent and impressive images, so expect optimized details when zooming. Furthermore, we still need to prove these qualities, and we’re as excited as others to hands-on the device. We hope we can review it soon.

Overall

Tecno Camon 18 Premier is a big step-up if we will compare it to the last Camon series. As of today, it is now available in the Philippines with a price tag of P15,990 and is it currently listed on Tecno Official stores in Lazada and Shopee. The chipset is considered a low-price Midrange processor but with gaming prowess thanks to the 850mHz GPU clock speed. This means it is an affordable and low-priced premium midrange smartphone with flagship-level capability Tecno has to offer.
