Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 480 as a way for OEMs to produce highly affordable smartphones with 5G capability. While we wait for other manufacturers to do so, Vivo jumped ahead of the pack and launched the Vivo Y31s for only CNY1698(~Php12,000) in China. It’s already up for pre-order and will become available for purchase starting January 15th.Â
The Y31s doesn’t only come with an interesting feature set but it also sports a design that’s found on the X50 Series. As seen from the images, it has a familiar squared-module on the back, housing a 13MP main sensor, 2MP lens, and an LED flash. For a small sensor, we’re surprised to see a 4K video recording to be supported. However, it’s a bit disappointing to see a notch for the 8MP selfie camera.Â
Going over the innards of the Y31s, the Snapdragon 480 SoC is paired with a generous 6GB RAM and 128GB non-expandable storage (though we have yet to confirm the latter). The 6.58″ IPS LCD offers 1080p+ resolution, a 1500:1 contrast ratio, and an impressive 90Hz refresh rate. Lastly, the 5000mAh battery charges through an 18W USB-C charger. This might be indicative of cheap 5G phones favoring USB-C over micro USB for the future.Â
Vivo Y31s is available in Monot Color, Titanium Empty Gray, and Ruby Red colors.
