Valve launches Steam Deck, a small portable Gaming PC with a starting price of ~P20,000

Valve launches their newest handheld gaming console or should I say portable PC. The Steam Deck is a compact and portable gaming device that can run and play all of your favorite Steam games. The Steam Deck is like the Nintendo Switch but wider and taller with 49mm thickness and weighs 669 grams.

It sports a 7-inch 1280×800 LCD touchscreen and 60Hz refresh rate and a controller. On its left are the analog stick and a d-pad while on the right is the ABXY key. It also has a trackpad to control the mouse pointer, analog triggers at the upper back, and is also equipped with a gyroscope sensor.

For connectivity and ports, it has USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 supports up to 8K@60Hz or 4K@120Hz, USB 3.2 Gen 2, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Under the hood, the Steam Deck runs on a custom AMD APU and it is based on the Zen 2 architecture with 4-cores and 8-threads running with a variable clock speed of 2.4-3.5GHz. The GPU uses the 8 RDNA 2 CUs and it comes with three storage options from 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD to 512GB NVMe SSD, and is expandable via MicroSD card. All variants however have 16GB of DDR5.

Steam Deck is running like how pc does and it is based on Arch Linux with Valve’s SteamOS 3.0. For its battery it is backed by a 40Whr battery and Valve says it can last 2-8 hours of gameplay depending on the framerates and quality.

Price and Availability

For the price, the lower variant with 64GB eMMC storage is priced at $399 (~P20,000), the faster 256GB is worth $529 (~P26,500), and the top of the line 512GB is priced at $649 (P32,600). For more info visithttps://www.steamdeck.com/en/.

Valve will start shipping their Steam Deck in December 2021 but it is now available for preorder in United States, Canada, European Union, and the United Kingdom, and more regions to come in 2022.
