The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has started a project to make the National ID available to the general public in print as soon as possible to give as many Filipinos their essential identification cards before the year’s end.

Dennis Mapa, the PSA’s national statistician, disclosed that the PSA had launched a fast-tracked process for producing physical identification cards printed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) shortly. In addition, part of the process is also to issue a printable ID that can be printed at PSA registration centers.

From a prior statement by Mapa, it appears that the PSA addresses some 28 million Filipinos with physical cards, which leaves the majority of the rest of the Filipinos with a printable National ID that can be accessed through an app.

If the rollout is successful, it will substantially increase the number of registrants who can present National ID cards, whether acquired at the PSA registration centers or from BSP.
