The DOST E-Library Will Be More Accessible

The Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) is a Department of Science and Technology (DOST) project. This will soon play a significant role in educating the public in the country’s rural areas as it will begin to implement its digital library project nationwide.

The STARBOOKS is a standalone source of information intended to present people in far-off areas with access to Science and Technology information sources where otherwise there is no access to information or where there are many restrictions.

Science, Technology, and Innovation or STI-based content will be provided in multiple formats, allowing those in geographically-isolated regions and economically-challenged schools and communities to benefit from the range.

For the first phase of STARBOOK’s implementation into specific pilot grade schools and high schools, a partnership was established with the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) to celebrate STARBOOK’s eleven years of existence.

For the e-library project to succeed, the underlying infrastructure that allows information dissemination via datacasting or data-broadcasting mechanisms over satellites in low-earth orbit and via digital television has to be put in place.
