TCL 10 Series Launched

A total of three phones was announced by TCL for budget-conscious consumers — TCL 10L, TCL 10 Pro, and TCL 10 5G. You can check their price breakdown below:

  • TCL 10L – 6GB/64GB or 128GB – $249(~P12,600)
  • TCL 10 5G – 6GB/128GB – $399(~P20,000)
  • TCL 10 Pro – 6GB/128GB – $449(~P22,700)

The three new mid-range phones will go on sale first in Europe, the UK, and North America later this quarter. No word yet regarding a release date in Asian countries. For now, here are the specs and features.

TCL 10L – Affordable Punch-hole Display

The least expensive of the bunch is TCL 10L. However, it has a relatively large display at 6.53″ which features LCD FHD+ with PixelWorks. PixelWorks converts SDR content to HDR to allow a better dynamic range. But we all know that it’s not perfect as seen from our Nokia 7.2 review. TCL 10L is powered by an outdated Snapdragon 665. The cameras, however, are good enough with a 48MP sensor coupled with ultrawide, depth, and macro lenses. The selfie camera inside the punch-hole is of 16MP sensor. As for the rest, TCL 10L is trying to stand out with its dedicated chipset that boasts an audio amplifier and a feature called Super Bluetooth that connects four audio accessories at the same time. TCL UI is the skin used by the company which is based on Android 10 already.

TCL 10 5G – Snapdragon 765G for the win!

The most interesting phone out of the three is TCL 10 5G. Aside from the name itself, the chipset here is Snapdragon 765G. It’s a near-flagship SoC that enables 5G connectivity. The design and display are the same as we’ve seen from TCL 10L, including the selfie camera. But for the main cameras, the visor-styled module houses a 64MP sensor which is the standard for the most popular mid-range handsets right now. The battery is rated 4500mAh and supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

TCL 10 Pro – A Samsung phone

tcl-10l-tcl-10-pro-tcl-10-5g-official-price-specs-release-date-availability-philippines-image-2

We’re a bit confused as to why TCL 10 Pro is called “Pro” and the most expensive of the three. Yes, it does come with better 6.47″ AMOLED, however, the punch-hole is now a notch. Furthermore, the chipset is a mediocre Snapdragon 675. On the flip side, it uses a 64MP GW1 sensor from Samsung. The ultrawide camera is slightly better, thanks to the 16MP lens. The same goes for the selfie camera with its 24MP sensor. Interestingly, TCL 10 Pro is the one promised with the Android 11 update.

TCL is a young company within the smartphone market. While some of its phones are flat out disappointing, we can’t say the same for the design. They stand out and don’t look like any other phones in 2020.
