
The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium will officially be released next month whereas the LG G7 ThinQ launched here in the Philippines this June. Both devices are flagship smartphones which sport the same chipset, Snapdragon 845.
Both smartphones share a lot of similarities in their hardware specs but which of the two is worth buying more? Let’s find out here.

In terms of display, the LG G7 ThinQ is the only one in the two that sports a notch. The LG smartphone also sports the larger screen with a 6.1″ IPS LCD display. Meanwhile, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium features a 5.8″ IPS LCD display. Although the LG device has the larger screen, the Sony smartphone has the better resolution since it has a 3840 x 2160 screen resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. On the other hand, the LG G7 ThinQ has a screen resolution of 1440 x 3120 and an aspect ratio of 19.6:9. The two are protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Under the hood, the two smartphones share a lot of similarities such as their chipset and GPU. Both are powered by the Snapdragon 845 along with an Adreno 630 GPU. Their difference lies on their storage options. The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium contains 6GB of RAM + 64 GB internal storage. On the other hand, the LG G7 ThinQ has a larger storage option of 4GB of RAM + 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. Both of the smartphones’ storage are expandable vis a microSD card.
In terms of their camera setup, the two smartphones feature dual rear lenses. The Sony device sports a dual 19MP + 12MP rear camera whereas the LG smartphone only sports a 16MP + 16MP dual main camera. As for their front camera, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has a 13MP lens and the LG G7 ThinQ has an 8MP lens. Looking solely at the specs, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium seems to sport the better camera. However, to fully determine which of the two has a better camera, we would have to do a camera comparison.
As for the battery, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has the bigger battery with 3540mAh whereas the LG G7 ThinQ has a 3000mAh battery. Both smartphones are supported by Fast charging although the Sony device also includes wireless charging. Only the U.S. version of the LG device has wireless charging so we didn’t include the feature in these specs.
Additional features included in the two smartphones are being water and dust proof. Furthermore, the two has a Type-C port. Out of the two, the LG G7 ThinQ is the one that contains a DTS-X sound as well as a 3.5mm audio jack.
