According to Counterpoint’s research, Nokia phones lead the trust rankings when it comes to software & security updates as well as build quality.

The global research firm shared three graphics charts to support its claim, as well as to show how other manufacturers fair against HMD Global, the new home of Nokia devices.

Between Q3 2019 and Q2 2020, Android OS version share within key OEM’s portfolio sees 20 Nokia devices already updated to Android 10. Although Android 11 is the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, only a few brand new units come with it. OnePlus is right behind HMD, with seven devices on Android 10. While Samsung is close, which is pretty impressive for the company, provided they release tons of phones every year.

When it comes to security patch frequency share, Nokia is the only one with perfect monthly updates. OnePlus and Lenovo trail the company, but Samsung, OPPO, LG, and Vivo have a lot of work to do.

As for the tests Nokia phones undergo, compared with the industry average, HMD’s lab testings are stricter and tougher. The company puts its devices under rigorous tests, especially in drop impact and hard pressure.

Commenting on build quality results, Associate Director, Tarun Pathak commented, “The build quality pillar was evaluated on several criteria including product robustness, force measurement, drop and impact, fatigue, wear and scratch, thermal tests, moisture and liquid tests, and others which included both qualitative and quantitative observations. We found that Nokia phones undergo tougher tests than the industry average.”

“We therefore concluded that, when considered alongside the faster software and security updates the strong build quality means Nokia phones will last the test of time which is increasingly important at a time when global device replacement cycles are getting longer, now approaching 30 months.”
