Rumors have surfaced online revealing that OPPO and vivo are developing their own handheld gimbal cameras to compete with DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup.

According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the devices from OPPO and vivo will be equipped with a 200MP camera using a 1/1.12″ type sensor, which is highly likely to be Sony’s LYTIA-901 sensor launched last year. This sensor has a larger unit with bigger pixels than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Isocell HP2 sensor.
The cameras will be co-branded with Hasselblad for OPPO and ZEISS for vivo. Both cameras are also said to run on high-end processors, and will support seamless interconnection with each brand’s smartphones. This means photos and videos captured on the pocket camera can be transferred, edited, and shared directly through the user’s OPPO or vivo smartphones seamlessly.
Meanwhile, given their advantages in image techniques, AI processing, and competitive pricing, industry analysts think smartphone manufacturers might shake up this market that is currently dominated by DJI and Insta360.
Note that DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 is capable of shooting 4K with only a 37MP sensor, and these smartphone brands could introduce more than 5 times the megapixel count, indicating a major boost.
More information about the upcoming devices will be revealed soon. Stay tuned for more updates.
