Last may, Vivo quietly released the Vivo Y83, the device that features a MediaTek’s Helio P22, in mainland China. Meanwhile, OPPO added a new addition to their A-series smartphones a few days ago called the OPPO A5.
Their specifications are a bit similar to each other so we decided to create a specs comparison between the two devices.

The Vivo Y83, with a 6.22-inch display, sports a slightly bigger screen size compared to the OPPO A5 with a 6.2-inch display. Other than that, both handsets have the same display specification features, an IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1520 and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The OPPO A5 has a dimension measurement of 156.2 x 75.6 x 8.2 mm weighing 168 grams. It is heavier than Vivo’s Y83 weight of 150 grams. In addition, it has a dimension measurement of 155.2 x 75.2 x 7.7 mm.
Under the hood, the OPPO A5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 with an Adreno 506 GPU packed with 4GB of RAM + 64GB storage. Meanwhile, the Vivo Y83 is powered by the MediaTek MT6762 Helio P22 with PowerVR GE8320 GPU packed with RAM and storage variants of 4GB RAM + 32GB storage/ 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The OPPO A5 is fueled with a higher battery of 4230 mAh while Vivo Y83 has 3260 mAh. Both handsets run in Android 8.1 Oreo.
Unlike the OPPO A5, the Vivo Y83 only has one camera lens at the rear with 13MP (f/2.2) aperture while the OPPO A5 has dual 13MP (f/2.2) aperture + 2MP (f/2.4) aperture. Both sports an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. In terms of specs, one would think that the OPPO A5 has the better camera. In order to know for sure, we still have to do a camera comparison between the two.
